I emailed EAA before I saw this forum. I have a Witness 9 mm with a AE prefix serial number. They replied that it was imported June 1997.
Ae on your attached list is 1979. I can't believe that guns sit around that long. I just purchased this used from Buds, and it is super clean. I don't usually see 13 year old guns that look this good! Thanks for the Forum! Bob

Welcome to the forum Bob! Funny thing is, your Witness is still a top of the line pistol, regardless of it's age.

TZ, I don't mind that the pistol was imported in 1997. I just can't believe it was manufactured 31 years ago, that's all. How could they afford to have something sit from 1979, until 1997? My old gun is a S%W 1905, 4th. change, shipped from Smith in June of 1919. Still take it to the range occaisionaly. Thanks for tour insight! Bob

TZ, I figured out what the problem was...... AE was the beginning of my serial # That is what I was using. BI, is in a box on the bottom by the magazine well. BI, is 1997, just as EAA told me! Thanks again, Bob

The letters in the box are what you look at.

The serial number prefix has nothing to do with specific dates (though it does indicate an era, as the older block starts with AE while the newer serial numbers start with EA). The boxed-letter code is generally rather lightly-stamped along with other proof-marks, generally on the frame, sometimes at the heel sometimes above the trigger.

I assume the data code is on the right side, near the trigger and in a box. I just received my new match and the code in that box is CF indicating 2011.

The only marking on the gloss black Mag is 9mm

Is there no "T" in a triangle on your pistol mag? The date-in-box code is absolutely correct.

Scott:
My 10mm is also an EA38*** and EAA told me that the import date was 2007 and they have no way to tell the manufacturing date

I have an older TZ75, which has an "H" at the start of the serial number. I finally found the box on the right side, above the front of the trigger guard. It's a "AP", which makes it a 1986 gun. It's an F.I.E. import, so that's about the time frame I expected.
Thank you for this valuable reference.

I hate to be on the only one riding the slow bus, but where is the date code?

My Witness has a serial # is EA53XXX

# EA isn't on the list at all, but I'm pretty sure it was manufactured because I'm holding it.

dondavis3......Look on the right side were the trigger guard comes into the frame. There will be a small box with the code inside. Merry Christmas. R S

Thank you Rod for the help.

Mine has a "CF" on it and it is 1 week old.

So I guess CF is 2010 too.

I have a TA 90. The stamped date code is AU, which is not on the list. The serial # is G19xxx. Any thoughts on the BI date.

I've had this pistol for years. It came to me in a trade about 10/12 years ago. It shows Excam as the importer.

Any help would be welcome.
